Numbering
You can create numbered lists within lists. To do this, enter the sublist with the first list, then select it and press F8. This indents and numbers the sublist within the main list. You can also do this on the fly by pressing F8 at the line you with to indent. Pressing Shift+F8 will return you to the previous level.
Copy and Paste
I was recently asked a question about getting text from an e-mail message in Lotus Notes to an MS Word document. The answer… copy and paste. The clipboard, where cut or copied data is stored, is a Windows function and allows data to be moved between virtually all programs; from Notes to Word, Excel to PowerPoint, Word to Movabletype, etc.
For example, to move text from an e-mail message to MS Word:
-
Select the text you want from the message
-
Press Ctrl-c (to copy)
-
Go to the document in Word
-
Press Ctrl-v (to paste)
Compacting Your Notes Workspace
You may have heard of compacting Lotus Notes Databases to recover unused storage space. You can also save some disk space on your machine by compacting your workspace.
- From your Notes Workspace, make sure none of the icons are selected and click on the right mouse button.
- Select Workspace Properties… from the pop-up menu. (If you don’t see this option, a database icon must have been already selected. Just click anywhere outside the database icon and try again.)
- The properties box appears for the workspace. Click on the tab with the icon that looks like a little propeller beanie.
- Click the button labelled % used. If it is below 85%, you may want to compact your workspace.
- Click on the Compact button. A progress indicator will pop up.
- Tracking the Size before and after will show you how much space was freed-up.
